Office of Student Services and Credentialing

The Office of Student Services and Credentialing (OSSC) is responsible for the admission of students to professional teacher education programs at the College of Charleston. In addition, the OSSC places students in local public schools for field and clinical practice experiences. Field experiences and clinical practice are integral program components. They provide the opportunities for candidates to apply their knowledge, skill, and dispositions in a variety of settings appropriate to the content and level of their program of study. Designed to integrate with coursework and to be developmentally sequenced for the candidates, these experiences help them develop the competence necessary to begin their careers. All candidates seeking initial teacher licensure, regardless of the college in which they are enrolled, must meet the requirements for admission to professional education, complete an approved teaching curriculum, and pass the required PRAXIS tests as determined by the major to be recommended for licensure.
