I graduated from College of Charleston in 1995 with a B.S. in Political Science. I began my career as an educator in 1997 at Centro de Educacion Creativa, an ecologically focused, bilingual school in the cloud forest of Costa Rica. After returning to the United States I earned a M.A.T. in Early Childhood Education and taught public school kindergarten and second grade for six years in North and South Carolina. My doctoral work at UNC-Chapel Hill focused on the intersection of schooling and popular culture. I am very interested in the ways that schooling is represented in fictional and documentary films and television. In my spare time I enjoy surfing, live music, and spending time outdoors with my wife and four year old daughter.
